Friday Night Sew In Results

Have you every tried sewing with a child? Well, I have taught sewing for years and have enjoyed sewing with all my kids but it does slow you down. First, she couldn't decide what she wanted to sew, then she decided and changed her mind. Then, she decided to make a dress for a stuffed dog out of very slinky fabric. Well, that was a fail. So, I decided to direct her in making a pillow case dress for her doll. Not only did she do all the sewing on her own, but she put princess seams in the dress. I was so proud of her.

In between helping her I was trying to make a camera strap cover. I did make it and it looked good until I accidentally cut the strap after I finished the cover. 

 I was able to finish one pillow case but nothing like the 35 we made last year. I made it in a bright flannel so it will be suitable for a boy or a girl. I will try to make another one before I put this one in the mail on Monday. So, my FNSI had some successes and some failures. However, the smile on my little girl's face after she finished her dress was priceless.

Friday Night Sew In

I've decided at the last minute to participate in tonight's Friday Night Sew In. This month is a special one because bloggers from all over are going to make Pillow Cases for Conkerr Cancer. I've got to hurry up and find fabric in my stash for pillow cases. My family and I made 35 of them last year, but I'm sure I have more fabric to use for the cause.

Here are the 35 pillow cases we made last year. I will probably only make one pillow case tonight. My youngest daughter is going to sew with me tonight. I'm not sure what she is going to make yet, but I hope to make a camera strap cover, since my strap was mysterioulsy cut last week (no one knows how it happened). 35 Pillowcases for Conkerr Cancer

Yay! We have finished our pillowcases! They are so cute and we had so much fun making them. I am posting pictures of them, neatly folded in my Studio and the last photo of the "Serger Droppings". (Smile) I have decided that I am going to use them to stuff a dog bed for my dog Bobbin. He will love it.

I am so excited about how my potholders turned out for the Potholder Pass 2. I love them! I just have to add grommets and then they will be finished. Today, I am looking for my grommets and the setter tool. I think my studio ate them. I will post pictures of my potholders when the recipient has received them.

Serger Droppings

My boyfriend, George, is one of those people who cleans as you go. I love that about him. He is always picking up a broom in the middle of cooking a meal or the time he had to help me with a huge drapery order I was working on. Lately, we have been working on 35 pillow cases for Conkerr Cancer. We have been using the serger to add the cuffs quickly. For some reason I was keeping the scraps that fall from the serger in one pile on the table beside me. I'm not sure why, I just wanted to see how big the pile would get. So, George-the cleaner, came up behind me and asked me what that pile was. I was quiet for a minute, not sure how to explain my strange obsession I had with keeping these pillow case scraps all together. I looked at the scraps and back at him and said, "That is serger poop." We both cracked up and I have cleaned it up a little for you by calling it Serger Droppings. I am posting a picture of the pile, but keep in mind there are five more pillow case droppings to add. I may have to make my dog, Bobbin, a pillow with the droppings, as I have grown quite fond of them. Ok....now you also know that I am nuts!

The Family that Sews Together......

The girls and I have been in the studio quite a bit this week. We are making pillow cases for Conkerr Cancer. We were already planning on participating in this program, but then a local store where I teach, Fabric Warehouse, had worked it out to get credit for "Disney's Give a Day, Get a Day program". This is really cool for us. My boyfriend, George, has never been to Disney World and most of my girls don't remember going, since they were so young the last time we went. With money being as tight as it is, Disney is not in our budget. So, all of us, including George have been making pillow cases. We each have make 5 pillow cases. We only have five more to have our 35 pillow cases finished.

Talk about stashbusting...this has really helped in that area too. I only bought 6 yards of fabric for this project. All the rest came from my stash...I mean my resource center. I am so happy to see the bright and cheerful fabrics go to the sweet children who are battling cancer. I have been praying for each child who may receive our pillow cases. I pray they find comfort and healing.
