NoBunny loves you Like Jesus/ Goodies

I came across a really cute idea when I found the blog Detail Oriented Diva. She had some really cute goodie bags with 2 Bunny Peeps in them with a tag that said "For my Peeps". It is adorable. You should check out her blog, she has some really cute things.

I loved the idea but I changed it up a little. I found some small clear zip lock bags in the craft department at Walmart. I got 100 of them for about $2. I bought some blue and pink Bunny Peeps. I only wanted one bunny in my bag and it fit perfectly. I wanted the label to staple to the top of the bag instead of tying it on. After I decided how I wanted it and what I wanted it to say, I handed it over to my tech support (aka my teenage daughter) and she designed it on the computer. I wish I could do that stuff but I'm just not there yet.

Next, I decided the bunny needed a little grass in his baggie, so I used some green food coloring to color some sweetened coconut. I just put the coconut in a ziplock bag and added about 2 drops of food coloring. Then I used it to play catch with my youngest daughter, but you can just shake it up if you prefer. I put one teaspoon of grass in the bag, added a peep. The labels have a greeting on the back. I cut up the printed labels and folded them in half so you could read the message and the front and the back. I stapled each side near the edge. I am so happy with how these turned out. I am making about a hundred of these to give to people at my church on Easter.

I was hoping to make pdf file to share with you but my 'tech support' had a date and didn't have time to do it for me. But please feel free to use the idea and make some for yourself. I can't wait to give these out on Sunday.

Sneak Peek of Baby Gifts

I made these for a new mommy friend of mine. All this pink has made me miss my five girls being babies. They grow up so fast.

I have too many new projects running around in my head. I have determined to get a few more finished before the week is up. I'll keep you posted.

Sewing For Easter

Yesterday, I made an oversize bag for a new mommy. I will post pictures after I give it to her. Today, I am thinking I really want to make something for Easter, maybe a table runner. I got some Easter fabric from my stash and I found these Easter embroidery designs that I got from Emblibrary a few years ago. I am always behind on holidays. After Christmas, I always think I should keep sewing from December 26th on, just so I will be ahead the next year. Allie has a great Christmas Thru the Year thing going on, that I hope to join this month. But for today, I am thinking Easter.

I am really enjoying being home with my girls again. That two month stint that I worked at the salon has given my a new found respect for the gift of being a stay at home mom. Of course it was very easy to walk away from since I didn't make any money. Regardless, it rebooted my love for being home. I am working on schedules and ideas to begin teaching sewing again. I am also praying for a way to one day purchase a long arm quilter and quilt for others from home. God will just have to drop one in my lap, but I have seen him do bigger things in my life alone.

I'm off to my studio.

In The Works

I have a new baby quilt in my head. It's for a "not yet born" baby boy. I was at Walmart the other day (yes ours still sells fabric). They had this adorable Dinosaur fabric AND it's the good stuff. It feel like high quality quilt fabric. It wasn't there usual $2 a yard stuff, it was just under $5 a yard. I just fell in love with it and the coordinating brown fabric. Then I went to Emblibrary and found a couple of dinosaur embroidery designs that match pretty well. I have been playing with one of the designs, but after 3 trial runs, I can't get the last satin stitch to cover the applique fabric enough to be comfortable putting in a baby quilt that will be washed over and over. I think I will change techniques and trim the design after the first outline stitch is made. I was following Emblibrary's directions and cutting out the dinosaur and the laying it on the outline stitch. If that doesn't work I will ditch the design. I will keep you posted on this quilt.

Today I embroidered another baby's name on a purchased fleece blanket. I have a friend at church who just had a very premature baby girl. I like to give new mommies something with their baby's full name on it. It makes it seem somehow more real to see the new person's name in print. I am also going to make them a quilted bag, also from cute fabric I found at walmart. It's not the same qood quality but it will be good for a bag.

Anyway, my studio is a mess at the moment. You know what that means? That means I have been busy planning and scheming with a little actual sewing going on.

I hope my friends out there in blogland are getting some sewing done as well. Until then....

Goodies in the Mail!

First of all, please forgive the quality of the photos. My good camera has a dead battery and I couldn't wait to post this so I took the photos with my iphone.

My sweet friend, Cyndi, from the blog Bluebird Swing, read about my Rowenta dying and since she got two new irons for Christmas she graciously sent me one of them. And it's another Rowenta! I love it! She is such a sweetheart. Lots of good things and friends can come from cyberspace.






Yesterday, I checked the mail and I found a large envelope on my porch. I couldn't for the life of me think of what it could be. I hadn't ordered anything. I knew Cyndi was sending me an iron, but I was pretty sure the iron wouldn't fit in an envelope, no matter how large. I had completely forgotten that I was to receive mug rugs from the Mug Rug Swap. I was so excited about getting mine made AND mailed on time that I completely forgot that I would be getting some too.

Anyway, Nicke (don't know if she has a blog yet) made me two adorable mug rugs! I love them so much. I love the "toaster" saying on the one and I love owls. I didn't make any specifications about my likes when I signed up for the swap. However, she really got my tastes right. She sent me some teas and favorite things that she puts in her mugs. Thank you, Nicke, so much!

What a great day this has been because of these two lovely ladies and of course the mail man. I am off to iron freshly laundered fabric with my new Rowenta.

Sewing, Sewing and more Sewing

Anyone who sews knows there are many different kinds of sewing. There is what I call "utilitarian sewing" which involves sewing for practicality. There is "work sewing" which involves sewing for the purpose of making money. There is "gift sewing" that is when you make gifts for someone you love. Then there is plain ole "therapy sewing". Therapy sewing is when life is beating you up and you just have to escape to your sewing space and create....just for survival purposes. Sometimes these forms can overlap from one category to another. For instance, I just finished make drapes that I was commissioned to make. These were both "utilitarian" and "work" sewing. They were a little on the boring side, but very helpful because they will buy us groceries this week. Last week, I was able to do some "gift" sewing, one of my favorites. I helped my oldest daughter make a quilt for her boyfriend for his birthday and I embroidered two baby blankets for a friend who just had a baby. These blankets were already embroidered, one with a monkey and one with Santa. All I had to do was embroider the babies name and make it very personal. New parents just love to see their new baby's name in print or thread as the case may be.
I am posting pictures of the gift sewing projects. Then I am headed to my studio to do some much needed "therapy sewing". Life is kicking my butt right now and I need a refresher...it's my kind of "re-boot". Hopefully, I will feel human soon and get back to "work sewing". I am making cloth, fitted diapers to sell. New Quilt Completed

I finally finished a quilt for my Dad. I started it about three years ago and I bought the fabric almost 8 years ago, when I worked at Granny's Trunk it Lakeland. My dad has been constructing things my whole life, so when I saw this fabric with power tools and screws and nails, I just had to have some. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it and I didnt really get enough of it. I had to add thses other solid colors to it and I used almost every inch of it. When I bought the solid backing, I was short changed by 1/2 yard from the lady at the fabric store. That meant more piecing for the back. I think it looks pretty cool, but unfortunately I had to cut two inches off the front borders. I am very glad to have it finished in time to give it to him for Christmas.
